Sleeping by any tarn at night is eerie; try it when it’s frozen solid with mist rolling over the ice towards your shelter, in Winter on Wainwright’s birthday weekend at his final resting place!
Wild Camping at Innominate Tarn
Before the Wainwright Weekend Walk on the Sunday we’ll be wild camping at Innominate Tarn to spend the night with Alfred and say happy birthday.
Wainwright’s Favourite Walk
The hike from Honister Slate Mine will take us for a short visit to Dubs Bothy before we cross Warnscale Beck. We’ll also pass Green Crag with it’s fantastic views down to Buttermere and beyond.
Alfred Wainwright spent 13 years writing The Pictorial Guide To The Lakeland Fells – the iconic series of guide books that everyone uses today to walk the Wainwrights. To celebrate Alfred and his works we’ll be spending the weekend visiting his favourite place, Haystacks, and his final resting place, Innominate Tarn, where his ashes were scattered.
This will be a challenging wild camp. Last year the tarn was frozen solid and it was very, very cold. Included in the ticket price is access to our Online Wild Camping Workshop where you’ll learn everything you need to know to make your first wild camp a success and encouragement to carry on wild camping for years to come.
