I’ve spent the last 30 years wild camping in the UK and France After completing the 214 Wainwrights in the Lake District, I decided it was time to become a Mountain Leader, create WildFire Expeditions and pass on everything I’ve learned.
As well as taking people out on expeditions, wild camping in the Lakes, Peaks, Snowdonia and Scotland, I teach navigation. I write about the best kit to buy for hiking and camping in the mountains.
After building some great relationships with other outdoor leaders, like John at Robustours, we run several ‘retreats’ at different times of the year to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, have adventures and lots of laughs.
More Than Mountain Adventures
The WildFire Expeditions website offers you everything you need to become proficient in hiking in the mountains. It will help you wild camping wherever you dare.
Wild camping and the adventures I’ve had in the mountains are the subjects of many of my blogs but I’ve gone into more detail on topics like water filtration, hypothermia, keeping warm. There are articles on maps, software and what gear to buy. There’s even a section on routes to take for bagging the 214 Wainwrights in the Lake District.
Walking the Wainwrights
I started the Walking the Wainwrights Facebook group in 2015 and have thousands of members, and I find that most new members are rookies. They’ve either summitted a few or zero of the 214 peaks in the Lakes.
After completing the Wainwrights in 2016, I became a Mountain Leader the same year. Alfred Wainwright’s works are fascinating. I’ve studied his Coast to Coast and Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells books in fine detail.
I’m more than qualified to help even mountain virgins become excellent at hiking in the hills and standing or camping on the top of their final Wainwright.
Whatever you get from WildFire Expeditions, I wish you all the best. Whether you come out on an event or pick up some tips on which coat to buy, it’s all good.
